Expanding Human Vision Ability by means of Image Recognition
Hiroshi Murase
Professor, Department of Media Science
He is studying image / video recognition and contents analysis to assist various kinds of human activities by supporting and expanding human vision ability, and by utilizing the visual contents. Especially, he is focusing on three research topics: (1) recognition of low-quality images captured by mobile or surveillance cameras, (2) recognition of video data captured by in-vehicle cameras and sensors for driver assistance and for obtaining geographic information, and (3) efficient recognition and retrieval of large amounts of image and video data obtained from the Internet or TV.
Understanding Image Contents by means of Integral Media Processing
Ichiro Ide
Associate Professor, Department of Media Science
He has targeted to provide reference measures to effectively search images by analyzing structures based on contents meanings. This is intended for a large scaled (thousand of hours) broadcasted image archives. He has worked out researches on integrated media processing methods to connect each analysis in each media including technology to analyze images, texts, and speech at a high speed and high accuracy. By accumulating such technology, high speed analyses of large scaled groups of images will be easily conducted which used to be quite hard by single media possessing.
